A Mother Who Leads Us to the Father
When my children were little, I loved watching them reach each new stage of development. First, they began to crawl, exploring the world around them. Then came those first attempts to stand and walk. I would hold their little hands and guide them, staying close, watching carefully to keep them from falling, bumping into something, or getting hurt.
Sometimes, their dad would stretch out his arms from the other side of the room, inviting them to come to him. And sometimes, I would simply pick them up and carry them straight into his embrace. There was laughter, joy, and the quiet happiness found in these small, everyday gestures of love.
Even now, remembering those ordinary blessings touches my heart and brings a smile to my face.
Someone once told me that Mary’s loving care can be understood in much the same way when we turn to her for help or consecrate ourselves to her Immaculate Heart.
That comparison spoke to me deeply. As a mother, I understood it without needing further explanation. It felt so close to my own experience, so vivid and meaningful, that it stayed with me not only in my memory, but above all, in my heart.
Mary’s Heart Invitation to Consecration is Her own invitation to walk every day with Her. She leads us toward Jesus in the fastest and best possible way.
Just as a loving mother helps her little child take those first wobbly steps, Mary accompanies us and leads us to Jesus. She does not take the place of Christ or replace our personal relationship with Him. She teaches us trust, courage, and surrender to God by Her own example.
What Is Consecration?
Consecration means dedicating a person, place, or thing to God so that it may belong to Him and serve His purposes.
In spirituality and the psychology of the heart, consecration is a conscious act of giving ourselves to God and entrusting our lives to Him.
When we speak of consecration to Mary, we do not place her in God’s place. We entrust ourselves to her maternal care, asking her to help us belong more fully to Jesus. It is a choice to follow a path on which we learn to look at Him through Her eyes, listen to the Word with her openness, and respond to God’s invitations with her trust.
What Does It Mean to Entrust Ourselves to Mary’s Immaculate Heart?
In biblical language, the heart is much more than the seat of our emotions. It is the center of the person: the place of our decisions, desires, thoughts, and inner freedom. Mary’s Immaculate Heart reminds us of her complete openness to God and her undivided trust in His will.

When we consecrate ourselves to her Heart, we ask Mary to accompany us on our journey of faith. We entrust to Her our joys and worries, our relationships, daily responsibilities, weaknesses, and deepest desires.
This does not mean that we will be spared difficulties from then on or that someone else will make our decisions for us. Rather, it means being willing to learn from Mary how to receive God’s grace and respond to it in the concrete circumstances of our lives.
This spiritual commitment can find expression in daily prayer, the Rosary, meditation on Scripture, and the imitation of Mary’s example. The goal, however, is not to multiply religious practices, but to allow our hearts to be transformed and let our faith shape the way we love, forgive, work, and care for others.
Mary does not keep us close to Herself for Her own sake. Everything in Her leads us to Jesus. At the wedding feast at Cana, she spoke words that remain a guiding light for every generation (John 2:5):
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Mary, Star of the Sea - A Mother Who Leads Us to Jesus
For centuries, the Church has called upon Mary as the Star of the Sea - Ave Maris Stella. This beautiful title evokes a star that helps us find our direction amid darkness and uncertainty. It is not the destination of our journey, but a light that points the way.
This is the role Mary, Star of the Sea, plays in our spiritual lives. She does not promise that the sea will be free of crashing waves or that our path will be without obstacles. Her presence helps us keep our eyes fixed on Christ, even when we cannot yet see the shore.
Beneath her gentle care, we can weather the storms of life through complete trust and surrender. Perhaps this is the holiness of a woman: finding shelter beneath the care of another woman who, like a star above a dark sea, shows us the way to the harbour we call home.
Because home is more than a place. It is, above all, a space where love dwells.
When I think of my children taking their first steps, I return to the image of their father stretching out his arms to welcome them. They did not need to know the whole way. It was enough to see someone they could approach with confidence and trust.
Perhaps this is the beauty of entrusting ourselves to Mary: She helps us take one step after another until we can respond more confidently to God's love and find ourselves in the open arms of His Son.
Ave Maris Stella - Hail, Star of the Sea
For centuries, the Church has entrusted its prayers to Mary, asking for her intercession and guidance. The hymn Ave Maris Stella is one such prayer, an ancient hymn in which the faithful turn to Mary, asking her to lead them to Christ.
May the hymn Ave Maris Stella become our personal act of entrusting our journey to the One who always points us toward Jesus. (a poetic rendering of the Polish text)
Hail, Star of the Sea, God's own Mother blest, Ever Virgin Mary, Heaven's gateway of rest.
You who heard the greeting spoken by Gabriel, establish us in peace, and change Eve's name to Ave.
Break the chains of sinners, bring the blind to sight, drive away our sorrows, obtain for us God's light.
Show yourself our Mother; May your prayers prevail with the One who chose to be Your Son, and never fail.
Virgin most renowned, Model of humility, Free us from our guilt, and teach us humility.
Grant us lives of purity, keep our path secure; Let us see our Jesus and rejoice in Him forever.
Praise to God the Father, Glory to Christ the Lord, and to the Holy Spirit be equal praise adored.
