The Real Climb Begins – Living the Metamorphosis

I didn’t expect today to feel different. I sat down with my Bible, just like any other day, I opened to the Transfiguration.

Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up the mountain to pray. As He prays, His face changes. His clothes shine like lightning. Moses and Elijah appear, speaking with Him about His upcoming Passion. A cloud overshadows them, and the voice of the Father declares: "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him."

I’ve read this before. But today, something stopped me.

Luke 9, 28-36

About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.  As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendour, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.  As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

What if I’m not just reading about this moment? What if I’m being invited into it?

So I close my eyes—and climb.

The Climb:

The Struggle Before Change

Each step is a choice. The mountain is steep. My legs ache. My mind resists. Why is Jesus leading me higher?

I remember all the times I’ve resisted change. I stayed at the base, afraid of what transformation might cost. Because change means surrender. And surrender is never easy.

But today, I follow.

The Moment Everything Changes - Metamorphosis of the Soul

Then, at the summit, it happens.

Jesus stands before me, and in an instant, everything is light. His face, His robes, the very air around us—it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s not just brightness. It’s truth made visible.

I fall to my knees, overwhelmed. This is the same Jesus I’ve followed day after day, the same Jesus who walks with me through my ordinary struggles. And I realize: I’ve seen Him all along, but not like this.

And in seeing Him, I see myself differently. His light reveals what I’ve been hiding and what I’ve been called to become.

Coming Down Different

Peter wants to stay. I understand that. But Jesus leads us back down.

Because transformation isn’t for the mountaintop. It must be lived in the valley. Practiced. Embodied.

Metamorphosis of the soul doesn’t happen in one grand vision, but in a thousand small choices. To trust. To surrender. To love when it’s hard. To live as if I’ve seen His glory—even when I don’t feel it.

I close my Bible, but the climb isn’t over. It’s just beginning. And I don’t climb alone.

1. What part of my life is God inviting to transformation?

🌿“The soul is like the wind—shaped by the currents it follows. But when it turns toward the Spirit, it becomes pure and light, rising higher.” – St. Hildegard of Bingen

2. Do I resist the change God is calling me to? Why?

🌿"The greatest tragedy is not to become a saint." – Léon Bloy

3. How can I live as someone truly transformed by Christ?

🌿"Do not be afraid to aim high. The world needs saints with courage." – St. John Paul II

🌿 I am asking Mary, our Mother:

O Mary, You who carried the Light of the world,

Teach me to be transformed by His presence.

Help me to say Fiat to His work within me.

Let my heart, like Yours, become a dwelling place for His glory.

Amen.
