Tiny Steps into the Land of Living
There was a season when I thought I had to wait on a mountaintop moment to see God’s goodness — some grand sign, loud voice, or glittering answer wrapped in fireworks. But over time (and a few deep valleys), I realized something gentler: the Land of the Living is not a distant land I have to strive to enter.
It unfolds in the quietest ways, the second I open my eyes in the morning and say, “I’m still here. And so is He.”
It took me a while to understand that faith doesn’t always need to feel like a 5-star concert — sometimes it’s a backyard hummingbird or the smell of morning coffee reminding me: This is life. God is here.
So today, I want to share some little steps — simple actions that carry purpose and quietly awaken the heart (especially on grey or teary days). I like to think of them as spiritual fruit snacks — small, colorful, and surprisingly filling.
– Smile (even if it feels awkward) at the first person you see today — even your grumpy mirror reflection.
– Open the window and say out loud, “Thank You, Lord, for this breath.”
– Notice one tiny thing outside: a sprout, a cloud, a dancing leaf (yes, leaves can dance).
– Drink your morning tea or coffee slowly and say, “I receive this gift of today.”
– Say “Good morning” to God before you say it to your phone.
– Pet a dog, or pretend-pet one in your imagination if no dog is nearby (this counts, trust me).
– Stretch and thank God that your body — however creaky — can still move.
– Sing (or hum) one line of praise, even off-key (the birds don’t mind, neither does heaven).

Little Steps with Purpose — Tiny Ways to Taste Why You’re Here
1. Write a short note of encouragement and slip it into someone’s book or mailbox.
2. Pray for someone by name, right where you are.
3. Share a story of God’s kindness in your life.
4. Call an elder and simply listen to their memories.
5. Start a “Gratitude Jar” — add one slip of thanks each day.
6. Bake something for a neighbor (banana bread counts as spiritual warfare, I’m convinced).
7. Plant something living — even a windowsill herb.
8. Teach someone a small skill.
9. Leave a kind note in a café or church pew.
10. Share your favorite Bible verse and explain why it matters to you.
11. Encourage someone younger in faith.
12. Donate something meaningful.
13. Learn a new skill to serve others.
14. Fold laundry as a prayer (trust me, it works).
15. Smile in the mirror and whisper, “My story matters.”
16. Offer silent forgiveness and free your heart.
17. Comfort someone as you’ve been comforted.
18. Name your gifts and ask God where to plant them.
19. Take one tiny step toward a quiet dream.
20. Whisper: “Lord, show me who needs Your love through me today.”
If you’re wondering whether all these small steps really count, just remember: even Jesus started His day with breakfast on the beach (John 21).
If He can serve grilled fish at dawn, you can hand someone banana bread or a smile and call it kingdom work.
So… what will be your first tiny step into the Land of the Living today?
