Everyday Life Full of Blessings - Looking with the Heart

Sometimes, in the rush of everyday life, I forget how important it is to pause for a moment and truly look at life with the heart, the inner place within us that can feel hungry and thirsty for something deeper. Learning to recognize God in everyday life often begins with something very simple: slowing down and noticing the beauty around us.

When I stop and reflect, I begin to notice things that usually slip past me when I’m rushing through the day because of work, cleaning, errands, responsibilities, and all the other small demands of life.

But when I pause just long enough to breathe and look up at the blue sky, something changes. Suddenly, I notice the trembling of a leaf, the delicate beauty of a flower petal, the quiet stillness of the morning.

🌿Embrace the quiet stillness of the morning. Discover how God speaks in small, ordinary moments and awaken your heart to gratitude:

These are the moments when God speaks most gently to my heart in the small, ordinary things. And I truly love these moments.

How to Recognize God in Everyday Life

What about you? Do you ever notice when you are looking with your heart?

Sometimes, a blessing is not only about receiving answers. Sometimes it is simply about recognizing the presence, a quiet, faithful presence that is there every single day. All it takes is a shift in perspective to begin seeing the world differently.

As Psalm 16:8 says:

“I keep the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”

Polish mystic Alicja Lenczewska wrote that Jesus once said to her:

“Look with the heart. It sees Me when the eyes wander.”

These words remind me that true vision does not come from the eyes of the body but from within.

How often do we search for God in dramatic signs and extraordinary moments, while He is already present in the quiet details of our lives—in every breath, every ordinary moment?

The most beautiful things are not always visible at first glance. Sometimes we must look with the heart - seeing people and the world through love, openness, sensitivity, and faith. It means recognizing God’s presence in everyday life, noticing goodness in simple moments, and responding with compassion.

Looking with the heart is a kind of spiritual vision that goes beyond appearances and touches what is essential.

The Harmony of Body and Soul

When I reflect on this, I often think of Hildegard of Bingen. She believed that the human being can fully experience God's presence only when body, mind, and soul are in harmony.

For Hildegard, everything was connected - our spirituality, our emotions, our thoughts, and even our physical bodies.

When we learn to look with the heart, we begin to unite all these dimensions of our lives. God is not present only during prayer or inside church walls. He is present in daily life - in the simple, ordinary moments.

When we realize this, we begin to feel how our body and soul become aligned with what God desires for us.

Why the Unity of Body and Soul Matters

A human being is not only a body and not only a soul - we are a living unity of both.

Our thoughts, emotions, and spiritual experiences influence our physical well-being, just as our physical state affects our inner life.

In Christian tradition, especially in the writings of Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas, the human person is always understood as a unity of body and soul. The soul gives life meaning and direction, while the body allows us to express who we are and experience the world.

Jesus Himself demonstrated this harmony. He healed both body and soul, showing that true human flourishing involves care for both.

When we focus only on one dimension - only appearance or only spirituality - we miss the fullness of life. True balance comes when we care for both body and soul and understand how they work together.

The unity of body and soul brings peace, health, and deeper happiness. Our body is not an obstacle to spiritual life, and our soul is not separated from everyday experience. Together, they create the wholeness of who we are.

The Jungian Perspective: Integrating the Whole Self

Interestingly, psychology also speaks about this kind of integration.

Carl Jung emphasized that true inner harmony appears when we accept every part of ourselves, not only the light but also the shadow.

Each of us carries strengths, talents, and goodness, but also fears, limitations, and difficult emotions.

Integration means acknowledging these aspects rather than suppressing or ignoring them. It means allowing our thoughts, emotions, and actions to become aligned.

When mind, heart, and body work together, we become more authentic. We become more aware of our needs and better able to respond to life with wisdom and compassion.

This kind of inner integration leads to deeper relationships with others and a stronger sense of peace within ourselves.

Seeing God in Every Part of Life

Of course, this is not always easy - especially during moments when I feel lost or afraid.

In those moments, I ask God a simple question: How?

And the answer often returns quietly: Look with the heart.

This invitation encourages us to embrace the whole of our humanity - not selectively, but completely.

When we do, we begin to see God not only in beauty but also in struggles, in shadows, and even in pain.

Every moment of our lives has a place in God’s plan.

And when we accept ourselves more fully, we begin to recognize His presence even in the simplest moments.

Matthew 6:33 reminds us:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

God Is Closer Than We Think

Then something beautiful happens.

A quiet harmony appears when body, mind, and heart begin to move in the same direction.

It feels as if I am finally listening to God - Abba, Father - with my whole being.

Looking with the heart gives life a new dimension - one filled with meaning, peace, and God's presence.

Psalm 68:20 reminds us:

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens.”

God carries our burdens every day - not only when we ask Him for help.

He is present in small gestures, simple moments, and great acts of courage alike.

When we learn to look with the heart, we start to notice this more clearly. God is not distant. He is close - so close that sometimes all we need to do is pause and become aware of His presence.

“Near, near, near You are, my Lord.”

A Moment for Reflection

Today, I invite you to pause for a moment and look with your heart.

What might God be showing you right now?

Perhaps it is the sound of the wind. The quiet of the morning. The laughter of a child.

God is present in all of it.

Personal Reflection Questions

  1. What everyday moments in my life reveal God's presence?

  2. How can I better integrate my heart, mind, and body in my daily life?

  3. What struggles within myself do I need to accept in order to experience the fullness of God's blessing?

Psalm 34:8–9 reminds us:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”

Therefore, I pray, God, help me to see with my heart. Surround me with Your presence in every moment of my life. Give me eyes that recognize Your goodness in the simple and ordinary. Be my guide so that I can perceive You everywhere. Thank You for all these blessings for myself and for those who are now praying with me, and for their loved ones. Amen.
